TSITour aims to develop a training module for the VET courses on the fields of care and welfare, bringing benefits to both VET professionals on the tourism sector and elderly people under social care.
TSITour
Aim of the project
Data from EUROSTAT shows that the population is ageing in EU-27: there are more people above 65 years old than below 14, the median of age increased from 38 years in 2001 to 42,5 years in 2016 and it estimates that the percentage of population in EU above 85 years will triplicate from 2016 till 2080.
Given this context, TSITour aims to create a new training module in the fields of care and welfare. It aims to give a second chance to the elderly people, providing them with a new opportunity to enter again in the active society, allowing them to be storytellers in the touristic sector. At the same time, this allows the tourism industry to provide more authentic experiences to the tourists, resulting in economic gains, and contributing for the dissemination of the culture and history of the communities.
TSItour, indeed, trains VET trainees on the methodology to implement projects on Social Intervention using tourism as case study, developing at the same time the storytelling competencies of elderly people under social care, strengthening their social inclusion. Their competences are applied in the touristic context, allowing the tourists to directly listen to the stories of the place from those people who have lived them. This does not only prevent their idleness, but also shows them that they can have an important role into society. In this way, it is possible to boost their psychosocial health, providing benefits to the touristic sector.

About
Our Goal
The project aims to develop a VET training for professionals focused on how to manage a Project on Social Intervention using tourism as case study: moreover, the VET trainees learn how to enhance storytelling skills of the elderly persons in the field of the tourism industry.
Thus, the expected benefit is double: on one hand, it is possible to offer a different experience to tourists, providing an innovative “touristic attraction” for Tourism Professionals. On the other hand, the elderly people have the opportunity to be reintegrated into active society as “storyteller” within the tourism industry.
